About Debbie
I’ve spent over 30 years working alongside public sector, FE, VCSE, community organisations and communities, supporting leaders through challenge, transition, and moments where decisions carry real consequence for people and communities.
I bring perspective, challenge, and advocacy helping leaders move forward with confidence, accountability, and purpose. Leaders tend to bring me in when decisions are complex, carry consequence, or need to stand up in practice.
My work sits at the intersection of leadership, systems, and people. I understand how complex public and community systems operate, and I understand the personal responsibility leaders carry when the right decision is not the easiest one.
Alongside my professional roles, a strong commitment to learning and education has been a constant thread. I believe in reflection, growth, and supporting others to develop, not as an abstract principle, but as a practical way of strengthening leadership, confidence, and voice.
I believe strong leadership is not about certainty or control, but about clarity, courage, and integrity, particularly when pressures are high or systems drift away from their purpose.
My perspective has been shaped not only by senior leadership roles, but by lived experience of responsibility, pressure, advocacy, and resilience. That combination allows me to challenge constructively, speak honestly, and stand alongside others when difficult conversations need to happen.
My work in community engagement and involvement has been recognised by local government, policing, and housing partners, reflecting a long-standing commitment to listening well, building trust, and achieving meaningful outcomes.
I founded Debbie Gilbert & Co to offer independent, values-led support to leaders navigating complexity, challenge, and high-stakes decisions bringing clarity, challenge and perspective where it matters most.
